“COUNTY GOVERNMENT EXPO” APRIL 26

The Constitutional Officers Association of New Jersey (COANJ) sponsored a County Government Expo to mark National County Government Week at the Marriott Hotel located on 1 West Lafayette Street near the State House in Trenton on Thursday, April 26th.

The intent of the Expo was to promote and showcase the many services provided to New Jersey residents by the Sheriffs, County Clerks, Registers and Surrogates according to COANJ President and Ocean County Clerk Carl Block. Interactive exhibits and displays were available for the public to view. A mock presidential election was conducted allowing attendees to cast ballots on an electronic voting machine. Various other exhibits provided info on obtaining ID Cards, Passports, Probating wills and the ongoing efforts by Sheriffs to provide homeland security and emergency management assistance.

“National County Government Week was first celebrated in 1990, and was initiated to raise public awareness about counties. I hope this Expo helped the public learn more about the innovative ways Counties deliver services to New Jersey residents,” Block stated. Numerous public officials including, Mercer County Executive Brian Hughes, and Members of the State Legislature attended the Expo. A ceremony to honor Fourth Grade Students from throughout the state that participated in the “My County Poster Contest” also took place at the Expo.
